INFORMATION REGARDING JPPSS DRIVERS' EDUCATION

 

The Jefferson Parish Public School System offers a Driver's Education Program approved by the State Department of Education and the Department of Public Safety.  The Community Education Department oversees the program.

 

Four Sessions are held each year. Registration and class information are listed below.

 

Students are required to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of driving.  Upon completion of the program the students can earn a 1/2 credit.  This program is offered to all public, private and parochial students in Jefferson Parish and the surrounding parishes.  Students must be in the ninth grade or higher and between the ages of 15 - 17 to register for classes.  A check or money order must be presented the night of registration in the amount of $340.00 (JPPSS employees $306.00) to confirm a seat in the class.

 

 

DRIVER'S EDUCATION FEES:

  All fees are to be made by either check or money order payable to JPPSS.  No cash will be accepted.

DRIVER'S ED CLASS PRICES:    
Driver's Education class is $ 340.00
Driver's Education class for a current JPPSS employees with a 10% discount for their children:  $306.00  (Employee's ID # required at registration)

ADDITIONAL FEES:
 1) NSF FEES:  A fee of $ 20.00 will be charged on all returned checks.

 2) PROCESSING FOR PROGRAM WITHDRAWALS: A fee of $ 20.00 (processing fees) will be charged should a student withdraw from the Drivers' Education Program.  Students will be refunded the registration fee, minus $20.00, processing fee, only if withdrawal is done before the first night of class. Once classes have begun no refunds will be given.

3) COPY OF CERTIFICATE FEE:  The fee is $15.00 for a duplicate copy of  the Driver's Education Certificate.  Students are given a copy of their Driver's Education certificates when classes are completed.

REQUIREMENTS TO REGISTER: 
   1)  15 years old - 17 years old
   2)  Student must be in the 9th grade or higher
   3)  Check or Money Order in the amount of $ 340.00
   4)  Student or Parent to complete registration packet

CLASS DATES:
All Drivers' Education classes are 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.  Students should have paper and pencil each night of class.  The first night of class students are to report to the cafe` for classroom assignment.  Transportation will not be supplied for classes.  When classes are complete the teacher will contact the student with driving dates.

 

FALL SESSION:   * Special class session due to football season. 
    Monday, September 12, 2011 - Tuesday, September 27, 2011
    Classes are Monday - Thursday for two weeks then Monday and Tuesday only for the third week.
